Mission
Statement
The
Natural History Museum of Sugar is dedicated to the investigation
of sugar to promote awareness, understanding, and creativity.
It serves its audience through the collection, exploration,
presentation and interpretation of works of art relating to
historical and contemporary issues of sugar. We are an educational
institution devoted to the advancement of knowledge about
how sugar is utilized, perceived and consumed
|
Our
vision
is to be the most significant institution in the Southern California
region devoted to the culture of sugar. The NHMOS provides leadership
by actively fostering creativity and education and demonstrating
their significance in our lives.
The
Natural History Museum of Sugar was formed in 2003 as a 501 (c)(3)
nonprofit museum. Temporary projects and exhibitions are currently
under way while we build our collections and library for a future
permanent museum in San Diego. The museum presents topics relating
to sugar through visual and didactic exhibitions and interactive
displays.
We
also foster sugar awareness through brochures, public lectures and
a public research library. We provide group activities for young
people encouraging creativity and fostering cultural awareness.
Our educational program is devoted to providing broad and balanced
perspectives about sugar for adults and children.
