La Cuccagna, Monument to Sugar
Balboa Park (December Nights)
2003, Spanish Village entrance

The Sugar Museum collected 10,000 donations of sweets, created this monument to sugar and gave the sweets away over the two night event. Santa Claus sat in the chair for pictures.

Cuccagna refers to the "land of plenty". In the 18th century artists created monuments of food for the people to consume. See more here at the Getty site,

The Sugar Museum's La Cuccagna represents a gift from the "sweets" industry to the people.

Daisy the Cow

Daisy was a cow sculpture on wheels made by students Lizzy and Desi in 2010 at San Diego City College. It was a cow made of fruits and vegetables.

After Daisy was on exhibit at the library, Lizzy and Desi allowed the Sugar Museum to take her on a mission around San Diego to educate people about school lunch.

Daisy's motto was "I matter, feed me well". She traveled to 5 restaurants around 30th street from South Park to North Park and raised $1030 that went directly to local schools where kids sampled healthy foods and to Alchemy's teaching kids to cook classes.
